Drawing Closer To God

By: Pastor Felix C. Ambingan

Psalm 145:18  "The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth."

Let us continue to seek the Lord and let Him be always first in our daily walk with Him. In our society and even in Christian community today is not aware of some idolatry that is present in our lives. Idolatry involves giving something or someone priority over the Lord--and it leads to missing His Presence. To be closer with God daily is really my earnest heart’s desire and prayer but it is so difficult to apply it, because prayer is not so attractive to the flesh, there’s always a struggle. That’s why we need God’s help, through the illumination of the Holy Spirit who gives us wisdom to discern what is right and wrong and perfectly able to direct us into His own agenda. Actually, it’s not about us, not our comfort, but it’s all about His overwhelming Presence and glory. Walking with God is a divine journey of a believer who put his trust and confidence not in denomination but in CHRIST alone.

As followers of Jesus, we are to pray to our heavenly Father when we desire a need of Someone -- the Lord Himself (Phil. 4:6). Sadly, many of God's children fail to do so. Some are "too busy" to bring their requests to the Lord. Others talk to the Lord in a general or mechanical way, without the genuine, heartfelt communication He desires.

Christians should come humbly before His throne of grace, bringing requests with a submissive spirit, not for something but for Someone, the Lord Jesus Christ, (1 Peter 5:5-6). In other words, we have to learn to bow down to God’s purpose and for His will above all else--even above what we think is best. It is important to acknowledge that He may have something better in mind. Then, as we faithfully pray, God may remove or alter certain longings so that our desires begin to align with His desire.

Furthermore, the Bible tells us to be careful and watch out for attacks from the Devil, our great enemy, He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour (I Peter 5:8). Approach God with confidence and faith (Heb. 4:16; James 1:6). This means that when we pray and seek the Father's will, we should be dependent upon Him. Our Father desires to be with His children if we call upon Him. Don't allow prayerlessness to prevent His best. Express your needs and wants to God confidently and specifically. Let us continue to draw close to God not for our satisfaction but for His own glory and honor. To be in His overwhelming presence is our greatest desire and longing. Then submit your will to His, and wait patiently. He is faithful--you will see His wonderful, marvelous grace and His presence! Amen!
